Umberto Eco war auch ein leidenschaftlicher Bibliophiler. Ursprünglich sollte der Film seine Bibliothek vor ihrer Übergabe an den italienischen Staat und dem damit verbundenen Umzug dokumentieren. Doch daraus entwickelte sich weit mehr. Davide Ferrario taucht ein in die inspirierenden Gedankenwelten des renommierten Philosophen und Schriftstellers sowie seiner Weggefährten. Dabei entfaltet sich nicht nur ein faszinierendes Porträt von Umberto Ecos Gedächtnis, sondern auch ein Einblick in das kollektive Gedächtnis der Welt.
